Preparations are well underway for the 15th annual Kelowna Yacht Club
Boat & Leisure Show on May 1st and 2nd, 2010. The Show has grown
over the past several years and is now the largest open-air boat and
leisure show between Vancouver and Calgary.Originally begun in 1995
as a free floating boat show featuring only new boats, the Kelowna Yacht
Club, a not-for-profit society, has expanded the Show to include a variety
of leisure products. This expansion has helped to increase both the
number of exhibitors and attendance has grown, having reached almost
15,000 visitors over the two-day weekend.
Costs are kept to a minimum and the net proceeds from exhibitor fees
are used to fund the maintenance and expansion of a system of public
mooring buoys anchored strategically in bays and sheltered areas on
Okanagan Lake.
These buoys are freely available for use by the general public and widely
enjoyed by boaters from all around the lake, including tourists who
are often not aware of other safe anchorages. This past summer the Club
recently anchored another 14 buoys to the most popular buys and coves
between the William R. Bennett Bridge and Caesars Landing which
increased the total number of buoys available for boaters to 32.
